Our Commitment

Good Soul Southern Kitchen is committed to ensuring that our website and our restaurant are accessible to all people, including those with disabilities. We believe that everyone deserves to experience great Southern food and warm hospitality, and we are continuously working to improve accessibility across everything we do.

Website Accessibility

We strive to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards. Our efforts include:

Navigation & Structure

  • Skip-to-content link for keyboard users
  • Semantic HTML structure with proper heading hierarchy
  • Consistent navigation across all pages
  • Breadcrumb navigation where appropriate
  • All pages are fully keyboard-navigable

Visual Design

  • Color contrast ratios meet WCAG AA standards (minimum 4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text)
  • Text is resizable up to 200% without loss of functionality
  • No content relies solely on color to convey meaning
  • Focus indicators are clearly visible on all interactive elements (gold outline)
  • Animations can be disabled via the prefers-reduced-motion system setting

Images & Media

  • All images include descriptive alt text
  • Decorative images are marked as such (aria-hidden)
  • Videos include descriptive context

Forms

  • All form inputs have visible labels (not placeholder-only)
  • Error messages are clearly communicated
  • Required fields are marked with asterisks and ARIA attributes
  • Form validation errors are announced to screen readers

Interactive Components

  • Accordion and tab components follow WAI-ARIA authoring practices
  • Modal dialogs trap focus and can be closed with the Escape key
  • All buttons and links have adequate touch targets (minimum 44x44px on mobile)
  • Carousel components can be paused and navigated with keyboard

Restaurant Accessibility

Our physical location at 70 Marshland Rd, Hilton Head Island, SC is committed to being welcoming to all guests:

  • Wheelchair-accessible entrance and seating areas
  • ADA-compliant restrooms
  • Accessible parking spaces near the entrance
  • Staff trained to assist guests with disabilities
  • Menu available in large print upon request
  • Service animals welcome
  • Dietary accommodations available — please inform your server of any needs

  • PDF menus (if available) may not be fully accessible — our HTML menu page is the accessible alternative
